Why Envy Can Be a Good Thing for Photographers
January 3, 2016(5 Minute Read)
Hey Guys! Happy New Year, hope you’ve had a great weekend so far, for this weeks post I figured I would make this sort of a rant/discussion about Envy. Yes, as weird as it sound I believe that envy can be a good thing in your life, as long as you notice it and as long as you’re willing to change your behavior and way of viewing things.
The thing is that I’m a very envious and jealous person when it comes to photography. It is something I can’t change, since I was raised with this thought of having to be the best at everything I did, and now it really makes me mad to see someone else succeed at what I want to succeed. Now don’t get me wrong, I do find it awesome that someone is making things work in their life and that is something to respect and be happy about, but sometimes I really wish I was in the their position. But I noticed that this behavior, this feeling of being mad as someone for no real reason was making me feel less of a person and it unmotivated me to do anything; because why do what ever it is that you want to do, when someone is already doing it? Well no one has done it, or will do it how I would, and now I decided to change that way of pessimistic thinking.
This past few weeks I proposed to myself I would turn things around, because I really don’t find the use in being jealous or envious of somebody else’s success, it is really stupid actually. It goes against all of my basics principals in life, which are basically to spread good vibes and joy not hatred and dislike. But as I reflected on this, I figured that there is a way to make everything work. While I definitely need to start viewing things differently and be happy of people success, I could also use envy as fuel. How it works its pretty simple, whenever I feel this envious behavior I quickly channel it as motivation to work harder and be better, in hopes that I would eventually get the same opportunities.
You see, everything that is bad can be used as motivation. Every time you feel like you’re being thrown down (weather that is by people or by yourself) you have an opportunity to stand up and be better. So for me it doesn’t matter anymore if envy is, to its core, something bad ‘cause as long as you view it differently is not. What this post wants, is for you to find a way to make anything that you’re struggling with, something of good and positive energy.
We have to stop thinking pessimistically, and I include myself in this because it is something I do all the time. If you’re not changing your mindset you will never be happy with yourself and with your work, because one thing is to be nonconformist but the other is to believe you’re not enough and that is just wrong. So please start thinking in a positive way, view things differently and if you ever feel negative vibes find a way to make them something of good and prosperity (Yes as cliche as that could sound).
So that was it for todays post, I’m really not a motivational person but this is something I’m working with myself and wanted to share because I feel like it can help at some point in life. Hope you enjoyed this post, I will post more tips and stuff soon but for now please comment, share and subscribe to the Blog below. See you around!
