White Background Everywhere

I got a call from a friend of a friend (really accurate description) looking for a black and white portrait on a white background, really basic yet a bit complicated if you don’t have the equipment, and by equipment I mean a studio. But for photographers like me that don’t have the money for a studio or are not interested on one just yet, there are ways to create a white background pretty much anywhere. And achieve a look like this:

What you’ll need:

- A Wall (White is always the best choice)

- 2 Speed Lights (External flashes)

- 2 Light stands (or something to put the flash in)

- 3 wireless flash triggers

- Your Camera with a good lens

- A Model

Once you have all of the above, the set up is fairly easy.

- First you set up a flash at a high power to face the wall directly. The over power of the flash will cause the wall to turn completely white.

- Then, setup the model about 4-6 feet away from the wall and the flash

- Set up Flash #2 to light the models face (the power and angle are up to you) remember, you can always add modifiers to make the light more appealing. In my case I used a really small softbox.

- After all its setup you should end up with a white background and a well lit model. (Set up each speedlight separately, this way you can see how the subject and the background are illuminated)
