First Time Shooting and Developing Film
February 6, 2015So we were assigned to shoot a whole roll of film and develop it in the laboratory before the class on Thursday. So I hit the streets of Rio Piedras, with a black and white Ilford roll of 24 exposures. Downside to all this its that my current film camera is an Auto exposure camera, since my Manual camera hasn’t arrive to the mail yet. But then again, it was somehow relieving to work just on my composition rather than the technical aspects of the camera.
After about 2-3 hours walking around places I have never been to, I shot the whole roll, so I went back to my apartment and went to the laboratory the day after.
Back at the lab there were lots of things I couldn’t photograph due to the fact that it was in complete darkness or my hand were full of chemicals, so I prefer not touching my phone until my hands are clean.
First step was to take the roll of film into the darkroom and load it into the developing tank (which its seal from light) after 15 minutes of fighting with not having sight I finally did it right, so that was an accomplishment.
Second step was Developing and Fixing the film which its all controlled by time intervals and agitation of the chemicals. For Ilford HP5 was 9 minutes of developing at 75 degrees, 30 seconds of stop bath and 10 minutes of fixer. After all this you can take the film out of the developing tank watch it and put it to dry.
So this is how all the negatives look (I took a picture and inverted the colors on Photoshop). Finally l bought a film scanner at BestBuy, it worked like a charm.
So here are what I thought were the Images of this roll.
